Ten Stamp Mill and Nine Ore Cars and Tracks

Empire State Historical Park, Grass Valley, California

Conservation Solutions, Inc. was hired to conserve the metal components of the mill. Once the structure had been inspected and documented, all of the metal components were cleaned using appropriate methods. All loose corrosion products were removed from the metal surfaces, all surfaces received an application of a corrosion converter, and all metal surfaces then received two coats of a protective barrier coating of wax.

CSI examined the structural integrity of the nine ore cars/tracks and it was recommended that all loose pieces be reattached in a sympathetic manner. Debris was removed from the interior of the cars and tests were performed to determine the most effective way to remove the Incralac coating on both the cars and the tracks. All surfaces were cleaned, a corrosion converter was applied, and a protective barrier coating of wax was applied.

Final photographic documentation and conservation treatment reports were written and submitted to the client. The project was finished on time and within budget.
